Skelmersdale is a town in Lancashire, England, on the River Tawd, 6 miles west of Wigan, 13 miles northeast of Liverpool and 15 miles southwest of Preston. In 2006, it had a population of 38,813. The town is known locally as Skem . The first recorded use of the name Skelmersdale appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. It was under the rule of Uctred as part of the hundred of West Derby. Scamwatch is warning Australians to be wary of an online scam pretending to be from the Australian Boarder Force. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said a recorded message claiming to be from the Australian Boarder Force (ABF) is being sent around.
Scamwatch posted a tweet today saying people had been receiving phone calls with automated messages that pretended to inform the listener of a problem.
