Callers claiming to represent the Greene County Sheriff’s Department tell residents they missed a jury proceeding and face arrest unless a fee is paid. The warning stresses that the department will never demand payment by telephone and advises recipients not to disclose personal or financial information.
Several people received calls that appeared to come from a genuine police number, but the callers were criminals impersonating officers and seeking personal information for financial fraud. The warning advises never to disclose banking details on an incoming call and to verify independently.
