Newry is a city in Northern Ireland, divided by the Clanrye river in counties Armagh and Down, 34 miles from Belfast and 67 miles from Dublin. It had a population of 26,967 in 2011.Newry was founded in 1144 alongside a Cistercian monastery, although there are references to earlier settlements in the area, and is one of Ireland's oldest towns. The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) is warning the public to be vigilant of scam calls that appear to be coming from numbers similar to their own. Commonly, the first seven digits (07nnnnn) match the victim’s own number.
Scammers are currently 'bombarding' the Irish public with phone calls, according to Newstalk's technology correspondent Jess Kelly.
